📋 Step 1: Confirm Whether Your Project Needs SAP

Almost all conversions that result in a new dwelling require SAP Calculations under Part L.  Your Building Control Officer will expect them before sign-off, so confirm early in your planning process to avoid delays later on.


📐 Step 2: Gather the Required Information

Your SAP assessor will need detailed project information, including:

  • Architectural drawings – floor plans, elevations, and sections.

  • Construction details – wall, roof, and floor insulation levels.

  • Glazing specifications – window and door U-values.

  • Heating & ventilation systems – boilers, heat pumps, or MVHR units.

  • Renewable energy technologies – such as solar PV.

Having this information ready will speed up the process and help your assessor run accurate calculations.

At this stage, your assessor will run design-stage SAP Calculations using your plans and proposed specifications.

  • An As-Built SAP Report proving your conversion meets Building Regulations.
